Help. My 01 f250 does not want to start below once temps get below 20 degrees. Cranks fine, hits, but dies. This progresses as temps dip lower. (took 45 cranks this morning.) Once it starts, it runs fine. I was able to get it running this morning with foot on gas, but it sounded and smelled like crap for about 45 seconds. Then it all of a sudden smoothed out and stayed running on its own. This is 3rd year for this. Any thoughts or suggestions? Merkur22
Change the IAC if it starts every time with your foot on the go pedal.
Also chk for codes with a scanner.
There are other things but this is the most common.

Okay you will need a fuel pressure chk at the fuel rail.(fuel pump chk valve or fuel reg)
Dirty maf

You say it smelled, maybe like rotteneggs kinda rich
Thanks for all the suggestions. I installed another IACV last night. Also went by a national parts chain store to have them pull codes. None. Didn't think so. Anywho, make a short story long, I aprehensively tried to start the truck this morning. (6 deg.)
Fired right up. Wohoo. Not sure if the valve did it or if my fiddling with the connector for the temp sensor has anything to do with it. I'll sort all that out wben it gets a bit warmer; say May.
Thanks again and I'm glad to have found this wonderful resource.

Had the same problem, changed my IACV and it runs great. The garage was going to charge me 100.00 in labor, for two damn screws. Now I can go out in the morning start it up and sprint back inside for it to warm up.
Believe it stands for Ignition Air Control Valve. It is located behind where the air enters the intake manifold. It has 2 screws which are easily removed from the driver side. The hose, however, is easier to pry off and reconnected from the right side. Took me 15 minutes and the valve was $60.00.
Truck starts great.
