Building a house...?

I was wondering if anyone on here has every had a house built for them, or if any of you are contractors. I was wondering what a ball park figure would be for a new house if you already have a site of land. A normal two story 3-4 bedroom 2 bathroom house.

Anyone have any ideas?

Also does anyone know how much it costs to demolition an exisiting old house.

pricing is dependent upon where you live.

I've had 3 BR 2 bath 1800 sq. ft. house build on property I owned for $40,000. I did all of the work except dry in which I paid contractor for.

Here in Houston area, averages last time I checked were about $60 sq ft. This doesn't get you a lot of extras, but it is a house.

I imagine if you get into CA you may be paying upwards of $250 sq ft.

I was having my house built here in the seattle area, 3200 sqft 5 rooms, master with a 5 pc bath plus 2 other full baths and a loft big enough for a pool table and fooseball
table and tv lounge, 2 car garage and more for 270k, but i lost it due to boeing layoffs.
cost me 3600bucks to get out of the deal.

I think the average in Ohio runs about $75-100 per SF

Here in Northwest Florida I think that they are saying it runs about 100 a square ft. if you hire a contractor, some people have said that you have to look hard to find one that will build for 100 a ft. Prices here have went up a lot over the past three years or so, but I guess that is about the case everywhere.

Around here it is about $75.00 a Sq. Ft. As far as tearing it down. Call your local fire dept and have them to a practice burn. Then all you have to do is haul what's left away. Saves you some money.

I will never have another two story house again. To much work to keep clean and then there is moving stuff upstairs and then down stairs. I kind of like simple. All one level. Very short and wide halls. Stairs are a bugger.

I live south in Oak Lawn, but I imagine places like Hinsdale and Western Springs are going for a lot.

I work in construction in the Memphis area. You can get a plain home built for less than $100 a ft. Thats turnkey. It may be more now since I don't know how much material cost have risen due to the hurricanes.I know two builders that will run your whole job for 10% of the building cost. These guys build some great homes too.
