Simple booster question

Bought a 77 F150. Bad brake booster. Replaced yesterday with re-built unit. No change. No vacuum assist. With hose disconnected and plugged, engine purrs like a kitten. Connect hose and engine runs terrible ( like huge vacuum leak) Common sense tells me the new booster is bad. Got a replacement on the way. could anything else cause this symptom? Thanks for your input.

I agree, the booster is bad - it happens. A good booster should never cause a vacuum leak.
