'95 F150 5.0 4x4- My back tank the gauge reads fine but when i use the front tank it either reads empty or when the tank is full it will read full for a little bit of driving, but when the level goes down, the gauge goes to nothing. Could this be a sending unit problem? Anyone have any tips for me diagnosing this? thanks for any help!!
I have a similar problem. Guage reads empty on the front tank, but there's fuel in it and it runs fine. Switch to rear tank, guage reads past full, but only about 5 gal in there. Truck won't run on rear tank at all.
I had the problem with a 1993 F-150 and the problem was with the float in the tank, not the sending unit. It read empty most of the time, but would flash to full and then go to empty quite quick. The float was somehow cracked and would get flooded and sink to the bottom of the tank, as low as it could go. I replaced the float, and everything was a ok. Mine was on the front tank also. Quite a job, have to bring the tank down from under the truck. Have fun!
Try unbolting the bed if you have a few friends that will help you lift it up and someone pull the truck out from under it. That is what I did, plus lots of times when you pull a tank it will develop leaks if it has been in a lot of dirty conditions or in a salt using State. I also got to paint the frame and clean things up by pulling the bed. I found it the easy way out as I had two full tanks and with the price of gas I did not want to waist a drop. Hope this helps some.
