06 ranger
The truck hasn't changed much for the past 10+ years. No problems with the 06 that I am aware of. My daughter has a 97 Ranger with the 2.3L. It has 170,000 mile son it and I've never ahd the valve cover off of it. It still runs great. If an 06 with a 2.3L will fit your needs, you can't really go wrong with it. My suggestion however would be to find an 04 or 05 with between 18,000 and 24,000 miles and buy that. It gives you at least a year timewise and between 1/3 and 1/2 of the warranty mileage-wise. This is plenty of time to work out any bugs you find and for a lot less money. Just my two cents. Hope you find what you like and feel free to post back with any questions.
the rangers started having problems with sticky throttles a few years back. my 03's throttle sticks ever so slightly but I never thought much of it until my dads throttle started to act up.
my dad also noticed that there was a rubber flap attached to the inside of the front passengers side wheel well but not on the front drivers side so he called them about it and they told him it is suppose to be that way. the service guy said thats how ford engineered it. of course I didnt believe him since my 03 2.3 xl has the same flap on both sides. So i took a trip out to the local dealership to see if the 06 rangers had the flap on one or both sides and all of them only had the passenger side flap.
It just seems odd to me. they have the holes drilled in the plastic wheel well but no flap. what kind of engineering feat did ford achieve buy leaving it off? if anyone knows, please share.
