I traded an 01 Tundra for an 05 FX4 F-150 Super Crew with the towing package and the payload package, 7200 lbs. GVWR. The Tundra did not like weight in the bed and would sag badly so I added a set of 'helper springs'. I was hauling a load of sandstone in the Tundra that weighed 1000 lbs. and even with the helper springs the rear sagged and the steering was light. The off-roading capability of the Tundra was good but it could not haul weight.
Today I hauled two yards of triple ground hardwood mulch in the FX4 that weighed 1900 lbs. (about 270 lbs. overloaded) and it only sat down about an inch and a half in the rear. As a matter of fact it looked as though I had lowered the rear to make it level with the front. The loader at the mulch yard said that he was a Dodge man but that the FX4 was a bad SOB! He also stated that when he dropped the second yard in it he fully expected the bed to sag all the way down to the tires and when it hardly moved he was very impressed.
I have about 6000 miles on the FX4 and have had no problems whatsoever. I love the interior and all of the goodies. I feel the Ford was a good choice and have no regrets in my decision. This is a fine truck that doesn't mind working!
I loaded about 1300 lbs of porceline tile in the back of my truck on a pallet and it dropped about 2-3 inches. Hualed everything just fine with no troubles whatsoever. Got the FX4 too and love it!
I hauled 3 cubic yards of hardwood mulch in the bed on my 05 STX 4x2 back in August and the weight barely moved the bed down a bit. These trucks are built really solid and I haven't had a complaint since I bought it.
