Anybody know of a good way to get rusted body mounts apart on a '78 Crewcab? The rubber bushings are rusted to the metal washer pieces and the metals are rusted together as well. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!!
I had to grind the heads off the bolts with a dremil, the only way I could get at them. Once I could move the body away I had to cut the mounting bolts with a zip cut. I couldn't see any other way.
i cut a piece of steel stock to about 3 inch length. you want a piece thats just small enough to fit in the wider section in the center(in from the top side on most of em). then just hammer all day. also you can semi sharpen one end so it grabs the bottom piece a little and you can use both hands on the sledge.

When I did mine, I used two breaker bars w/ sockets and busted the bolts off. Then I had to drill the bolt out from above to seperate it from the mount sleeve. On two of them, I busted the bolt head off the top and cut the nut off the bottom. Then jacked up the cab and pulled the rest out. I put it in the vice and used a whole can of pb blaster, a torch, a large punch and a 5 lb. sledge hammer for about 2 hours. Ended up drilling them out too. Not fun.
Thanks for the insight guys!!! I was not lookin forward to getting these things apart before i posted this thread and am really not looking forward to it now after hearing what you all have to say about this!!! Sounds like cutting them off and buying new is maybe not a bad alternative! lol sounds like i better have some "big guns" to get this accoplished if i want to retain the origianl pieces.
