engine knocking

engine knocking

whenever i start my truck there is a knocking noise in the motor and it only does it for a little while then stops. could this be my engine valve? why does it do this?

By little while, do you mean 10 seconds? If so, your rod bearings are proabably getting a little worn. It just takes a while for the oil pressure to build up.

well it does it for about 4or5 seconds. it this somthing i need to get replaced soon?how much would it cost?

The only way to fix it is do a complete overhaul. But I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it gets louder or longer. 4 -5 seconds really isn't that bad. An engine swap done by a good shop will cost $1500+

if your rod bearings are worn you dont have to do a complete over haul, you can replace the main bearing, and all. basically it is a bottom end rebuild. but if your cylinder walls are trashed you will have to get them bored out, and then do a rebuild. but if it was like mine and a little wear on the rod bearing, i replaced those when i did the oil pump, basically replaced everything i could get too while i had the egine up and the pan off. runs great now
