I have a 96 Taurus with the daylight running lights, which I think is a good idea. however; as with most good ideas, eventually something is going to happen that will end up costing money. The lights were working great until about a week ago. Whereas the lights would go off before when the ignition was shut down, now the lights are staying on. I have had to resort to removing the battery cable so as to make them go off, and when I return, I have to emplace the cable so that I can get where I'm going. I believe that it might be the light control module located under the left front headlight, but I'm not sure.
Can anyone shed some light (jeez........everything is a pun nowadays) if I'm heading in the right direction, or if it's something else entirely.

I assume that this is not just the normal exit delay feature, which, as you probably know, can hold your headlights on for up to three minutes. Sometimes the setting gets changed inadvertently.
Not too familiar with your '96 Taurus, but these daytime running lamps usually have a relay control, and it sounds as if yours has gone bad. On F150's, the relay is under the panel on the top of the passenger side of the dash board, but I can't guess where it might be on yours.
Thanks for your response.......as for the delay, I left the lights on for about ten minutes and they did not go out, so there is something wrong with either the Daytime running lamp module, or what is called a Generic Electronic Module (GEM), or perhaps the light switch itself. I know for a fact that my car is equipped with the running lamp module, but I am not sure about the GEM; although my Taurus repair book only lists the first one I mentioned in their schematic of the light system. I just want to make sure that the problem is not some place else, so that I end up replacing more than I should.
The most common problem is a bad DRL module. You can try unplugging it and see what happens.
It should be sort of under and behind the left headlight. If I remember right you may have to partially remove the inner fender liner to access it. It's about ummm 4" square by 2" with one connector.
