I'm considering putting a 4 inch lift on the X. Not totally sold on it though. I had a Chevy with a 6 inch lift and loved it. Drove it for 3-4 years with no problems at all.
Anyone out there regret lifting their X?

Only thing you'll regret is not doing it sooner. I just finsihed mine last weekend and it rides better than stock. Donahoe Racing is the way to go. Best kit on the market IMHO.
I hope you don't have any toys that pull, or trailers that you haul. Lifts sometimes can really mess with your truck's excellent stability, and that is ok if your truck is THE a toy. It only becomes a problem when you ask it to haul all your toys. I know I wouldn't be able to get my truck camper on my truck with a lift. I wonder how a truck with 38 inch tires would pull a 5th wheel or a goose neck trailer? You would probably be lifting the trailer too and that would be cool. Can you picture a Montana 5th wheel with 38s? I'm pretty sure you'd be going around all the overpasses! These are just some things to consider when you lift it.

We're talking about an Excursion here though, not a SD truck. Even on 37s, the only thing I am pulling is from the rear bumper. No 5th wheel or gooseneck capablities without chopping the roof off.........
thats why they make drop hitches. even with a 6" lift and tires, you just have to get the drop hitch. taa daa, all good. besides for my X, i have a ram 2500 4x4 with 7" of lift and 37's. i have a 4" drop hitch and i tow my racecar inside an enclosed trailer, level, with no problems.
i have a 3" lift all around with factory ford stuff. no regrets except had i bought a diesel i would have gone with a donahoe racing 7" lift. thats all.
clarence
When lifting an excursion, say 6"-7" will it affect the distance of the reverse sensors. Will they still work properly or is there a greater chance that it wont be that accurate.
I would'nt mind liftin my Ex, they look real sweet in the air. But the only reasons I havent done it yet is cost. What do sacrifice with a lift and bigger tires?
I also haul a 27' Travel Trailer, weight is around 6,000 lbs.
Ordered the Donahoe 4 1/2" drop hanger system. I originally was going to do the Pro-comp 4" system but then I saw the front springs. I think they would create a much stiffer ride. I think the front end is stiff enough as is. The hanger system uses all the factory springs.
I also ordered Eagle Alloy 114 17x10 wheels. Putting some BFG 315/70/17 on them. I post pics once its done.
I have 6" on my X and regret not getting 8. I have a 6" drop insert which makes my trailer level. The reverse sensors are a bit off but still helpful. Checking it for distance, I backed up to a lowered civic and when the beeping went solid, my bumper was 4 inches past the leading edge of his car but never touched it due to my height so the sensor still stopped me from hitting anything, but I doubt anyone would like to see their car 'tucked' under someone's truck, even if it did no damage. I met a guy with an F250 with 39.5s pulling a very nice boat, maybe 22-24 foot and the trailer had 37 inch tires. Looked wicked and he complained nothing about towing but had 5 something gears.
Funny story on the parking garage is twice so far I could not pull into a parking garage at a tourist stop, so I was allowed to park in the bus section which was closer to the front both times...kinda like VIP parking!
bad tihng about the bus/truck parking, i live near Philadelphia PA, and it's over double that i have to pay because i'm actually paying for a tractor trailers spot. i miss the height by over 22". the clearance is 8'5" on my rig.
RACER-
You need pics added to your gallery. Your list of mods does not include a lift. You got me by a foot which would take about 16-18" of lift. Would love to see it. Mine still fits in my 8' garage.
oops, in my post just above yours, i said the clearance id 8'5". if you look at my post before that one, i was talking about by dodge ram 2500 4x4. however i have on order now, the donahoe racing 7" kit and a set of 37" bfg all terrain k/o's like my ram. cant wait to install them.that should give me 10" taller. sorry for the confusion. my bad.

Donahoe 4 1/2 drop hanger lift system w/Bilstein shock
17 x 10 Eagle Alloy wheels
315/70/17 BFG All Terrains.
Ride is better now that I'm not hitting the front bump stops. The bigger tires seems to absorbs more of the small bumps. Overall, ride seems a bit smoother that before.
The rear could use another 1/2 - 1 inch of lift. May look into an add-a-leaf or most likely air bags.
How did you re-mount the bottom black valance below the bumper that attaches to the bash bar? As I remember, the bash bar is removed when installing the new hangers and Donahoe did not have a way to re-mount it.
