Does anyone have a conversion table to determine the RPMs at different speeds in different gears? I have a 97 XLT 2wd 2.3L M5OD and it doesn't have a stock tach. I am just curious to know what RPMs I'm running.
I'm not aware of any tables like that myself, but I bet they exist somewhere.
Have you thought about changing out your stock speedo/instrument gauge cluster with another OEM one that has the tach? IIRC, they are plug and play on your '97...
A 95-97 factory tach cluster will work for you. More than likely cheaper and less work than an aftermarket version.
The only thing on the 95-later clusters I can't tell for sure is how to swap odo readings out. On the 94-earlier tach clusters, you just pop out the speedo center section and swap. The later ones call for being handly with a screwdriver or knowing a speedo shop in the neighborhood.

I was wondering this too. Why couldn't we just remove the Speedometer and Odometer from the old cluster and install it in the new one?
