Thanks a bunch guys. I just pulled a 55 F100 out of the woods that has been there since 1969. Needless to say it's going to require a lot of sand blasting. I noticed that the respirators are pretty much universal with the filters being application specific. Does any one have an idea of exactly which kind of respirator filter is best for sand blasting?

The absolute best would be a fresh air supply system utilizing a pressurized hood and full tyvek suit . BIG bucks (500) is a lot, but if you are painting the truck, might want to consider one ) The FAS would assure no silica dust in the lungs. A dual cartridge particulate 3M mask from Lowes would be a LOT cheaper way to go. But you need to remember when SBing there is a LOT of fine dust in the air that will clog the filters fast. Then you will sucking in air (dusty) from under the facial seals. Even with a dual canister respirator, you still need a sand blast hood on.

Greg, Thanks a bunch that's the information I was looking for. Do you have an opinion of a good sand blaster to purchase? I will probably only use it on this one truck, so I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I'm going to need it for the whole truck so I don't mind spending what I have to.

I bought mine, a five gallon one from Northern Tools just to do my step bumper . It was 90 bucks delivered. Harbor freight carries decent ones too. It made such a mess, I farmed the bumper out to get sand blasted and it cost 75 bucks. hmmm, do the math on that one ..
If you are figuring on doing the WHOLE truck with sand, you are in for a MAJOR job. One that if you are not careful, may warp the larger metal panels from heat friction fron the blasting sand. I would recommend using a 7 in side grinder type (buffer type) tool using 80 grit paper on it. That 80 grit will take to metal in no time ( move that around too so it wont overheat the metal ) . Then just use the SB for the smaller crevices and hard to gets. good luck. jmo
