its going to be in a 1978 f150 4x4. so what all is the 347 conversion. what parts do i need. if i keep it a 302 what can i add to get that extra umf. need alot of power. any help would help.
I think you'll find a few people here who would recommend swapping in a 351W rather than stroking the 302 out to a 347. I've heard that the 347 isn't as reliable as say, a 331 stroker, but I have no personal experience with either of them. I've also seen users here who swear by the 347.
If you need a lot of power as you say, then you might indeed be better off to go 351W and stroke that out. The cost would be about the same as building the 347 stroker with the addition of getting your hands on a 351W for a starting point.
If you're a die-hard 302 guy (some of us are!) and want to stay with the 302, then there are still some options available.
im with tiger. look into your overall goals with this rig. the 5.8 block is a stronger block as well so it can take a lot more then a 302 can. the weight savings between the 2 is minimal. the 5.8 will bolt right in place of your 302 which is nice. and like he said stroking either motor will be the same cost but just look at what you will get.
