ever time i turn the engine over it grinds any idea what is wrong with the starter or if its not that then idk what it could be any idea what is wrong with my truck,
Normally if you get a grinding noise it is either the gear on the starter worn or the teeth on the flywheel. If someone replaced the starter before and didn't replace the proper spacer, it could cause a problem also.
ive replaced the starter several times, and the flexplate once, the person that owned the truck before me stripped out the bolt holes for the starter, so i have had problems with the top bolt falling out, i have nuts on the bottom bolt so it aint going anywhere, but dont have one long enough for the top one yet i just took the starter off, and the gear on the starter is just fine, i have yet to check the flexplate.
ok thanks all, i found the problem, the flexplate is craked in a dozen different places, i guess im taken the transmission off again, well anyone have any tips for me to make it easier to do this time, since its winter here, and i dont want to be out there longer then i have to
to get the top bolts out easy, put a jack under the tranny, remove the crossmember. let down on the jack some so the tranny tilts and you can easily get a staight shot to the top 2 bolts... dont let all the way out on the jack,, it binds the motor mounts and or you distributer might hit the fire wall and could break something...
