so i have an 04 6.0 and i was wonderin if anyone has remote starters and if so what is a good brand and also if the key pad on the door still works because ive heard that they can mess it up and i use that all the time
I have a Viper 791xv, its alarm, remote start and pages you if your truck is tampered with. It has very good range, and you can even see the status of your truck from the remote, like whether or not its armed or disarmed etc. As far as the key pad is concerned, it will still work, the alarm is not tied into the keyless pad in any way.
Three excellent brands are Compustar, Astroflex, and DEI (makes the Viper mentioned above). If you just get the remote starter models, and not a remote start/security system, your keypad will work just fine. Considering Superduty's don't come with security systems, I would recommend buying a remote start/security system. I personally use the same one as pamelbert and it's been great.
I've been looking in these as well I've put a few bulldogs in and I'm not real impressed with them so I want something with long range and easy to install but very reliable. On with my search.
AstroStart here. Dealer install only for the do-it-yourself guy (sorry) Signal wire taps only, interfaces to your truck with a module. Works with standard transmissions as well.........and the number 1 reason I bought this system, 2way remote with a 2000ft working range......yeehaw!
New systems are coming so you can call your truck with a cell phone.
I am with RanchRodTX on this one I had Pro Tech in Dallas do mine. Its a Clifford G5 alarm/remote start and it works flawless execpt for I have it set way to sensitive so it goes off when you just rest on the bed cap with your arm. I have almost everything you could possible get with this unit. All the way from auto windows all the way around, all I have to do is one touch up or down(also allows you by the touch of a button to roll the windows up or down as much as you like), tilt sensor, sensors on the windows if someone trys to shatter it with a spark plugs(still will set it off), and has 2 little speakers inside with their own independent battery so they will keep going off(they put out around 3 and half Decibels each, which is enough to shatter your ear drums so... even if they do steal it they will be deaf by the end of it hehe. What I like most about it is that they solder everything they don't just splice and crimp everything together. Makes for a cleaner better install.

David- Did you mean that the little speaker's put out 103dB's? I assume you are talking about a couple of piezo's. And they will definately make your head hurt.
I have seen the additional speakers that David is talking about and the guy at Ultimate Electronics said that he has one of those in his Cobra Mustang and they are very loud. I think that they run about $50 or so.
$50. for a piezo siren is waaaaay to much. You can buy these little bugger's at Radio Shack or on the internet for about $5.-$10. a piece.
ON EDIT: If you don't want a generic one, you can also pick-up the DEI (maker's of Viper and Clifford alarms)branded one, I think it's the 513T, for about $8-$16.
