The main drawback to them was that the ports and valves were so big that they didn't really make much bottom end power, they flowed bast at around 8000 RPM. Not the exactly the best thing for a street motor.
For a while it was popular to build a fake Boss 302 by swapping 351C heads onto a 302 block. But then you still have to have the Boss intake manifold, a special unit that doesn't interchange with anything else. There were some aftermarket manifolds available so that made it a little easier. Of course, you didn't have the high-strength bottom end to handle the power and RPMs.
Today, with all the excellent aftermarket heads available for the 302 there's not much point in building a fake Boss other than the coolness factor. Wouldn't kick a real one out of my garage for leaking oil though...
