Hello, all,
I'm building a 347 stroker out of my 302 for my 89 F-150 5-spd. I need torque, I don't want to turn this motor into a high rev high horsepower motor only. I will turn 6 grand no problem, but I want low end torque too. I was thinking about the GT40P heads. . . but some said that it would flow enough for the 347. Well I'm trying to make the most horsepower and torque possible. So does anybody know any good combinations? I am planning right now to use the GT40 intake manifolds, with the mass air conversion. Is this a good choice? Another thing I need is a good cam choice. I want it pretty lumpy to make a nice rough idle sound. But you al lknow I still need low end torque. Somebody educate me on the therory of valve train and head matching. Thanks.
Timmy
AFR 165's would be the way to go. they flow awesome out of the box and will keep your power low. as for a cam, call compcams and get there input. besure to specify what your doing and the mods to the motor like heads etc... you need to know that lumpy doesnt make power and frankly isnt suited for a 4wd application. the smoother it runs the better it will perform. if you want lumpy build a hotrod.
if you can go roller.
do you already have this motor? because a 5.8 would swap right into its place and if stroked would give you even better gains . plus its a much better block to build from.
have fun
Yeah sounds like 165 chambers are a good size. What does the gt40p heads flow? I'm going to be using this truck more for racing than four wheeling. I mean if I'm stuck in the mud, and I put her in first a let the clutch out, I want it to crawl out, I don't want it to die or anything. So I need a good amount of low end torque still, but sure would love a slightly aggresive idle sound. I love the input, keep it coming, THanks
