fuel filter help
i bought a new filter for my 92 f150 and i got these plastic deals to get the lines off how in the hell these things work i got them from car quest their is a bunch of different sizes also i cannot figure out how the work help asap my truck runs like crap barley runs that is lol!
Your truck probably has the clips inside the fuel line. You will need that little tool that slides into the fuel line which will allow you to remove the filter. Or you may just have the one with those plastic clips that just pop out.
Take the little plastic tool and slip it over the fuel line between the line and the filter. You will have to pry it open with a screwdriver in the crack to open it up enough to slip over the line and put it on with the flat side towards the filter. Push it as hard as you can into the end of the fuel line. While you are pushing it into the line, push the line harder onto the filter until the little plastic tool unlocks the line. When you have it in tight, pull the line off of the filter. You don't need the tool to put the line back on, it just goes on until it clicks into place.
At least it's under the truck where you can lay down and take it off. You should try the fuel injector lines that are behind the upper manifold. Here you are hunched down in the engine compartment, over the engine, trying to push it together to unlock it and pull it apart all at the same time with only two hands when you need three or four. And these lines have been together for the last 10 or 15 years as well. It can be pretty frustrating. Anymore I usually lube them with Liquid Wrench, WD40, or something before I even try. Of course after that they are slippery as well.

ALright im pissed now! lol. I inserted the tool as far as I could inside the line. I could actually rotate the line by just turning the tool. I tried, and I mean tried, to push, pull, whatever and that damn line is just stuck! Also, what the hell are the 2 clips that were on the lines for? I dont have them on and they dont seem to affect anything. God, this is more aggravating than removing that damn fuel regulator.
Those two clips are there to hold the fuel filter in place in case the connector, that you can't get off while trying with all your might, happens to come apart on it's own. Funny isn't it?
They are a pain. You have to push in the the stupid tool and then pull on the line while holding the tool in place. Like gov said, 3 or 4 hands would make this a bit easier job. Gont anyone that can help you?

The two white plastic clips are for the earlier (easier!) style of fuel line, you don't use them with this style of line. It may be easier if you spray some type of lube into the end of the line first. You have to push the plastic tool all the way in until it's about flush. They will come off. You will be amazed at how easy it goes back together though.
I tried that cool tool and went bat***** trying to get it apart. I finally reverted to brute strength and ripped the line out of the filter. NAPA has the little steel finger clips for cheap. Put new clips in the new filter and it went together beautifully. The SWB is even more of a pain because the tank is right in the way.
From my experience, they're a pain in the booty. MOST of the time, I found it easiest to use compressed air to blow them out, because they're usually filled with dirt. Then I used WD-40, liquid wrench, or whatever lube/spray I had to lube it up, then push like hell, while twisting back and forth extremely fast, hasn't failed yet. IMHO, I think most of the time, they get filled with dirt and then they do not want to unlock. I always wonder which engineer at Ford developed these?

hammering the aluminum NAPA tool in there, she finally came apart!
