Question Utah Tranny shops

I just took my 96 PSD into Cottman Trans shop for a free scan and was told that I had metal in the pan. The O/D light started flashing a couple of weeks ago and then stopped. The shop told me $500 to drop the tranny, tear it apart, and rebuild it to give me a good estimate. Sound right? Is Cottman good or is there better here in the Ogden/SLC area of Utah.

Please don't take your truck to Cottman's, they have no idea how to build a tranny to hold power. I realize they might be the cheapest, however, and I can't stress this enough in regards to tranny stuff, you get what you pay for. A BTS tranny or a Faubion Motorsports tranny is more expensive, however, these tranny's are proven to hold over 500 hp with ease. MADDOG was running an 800 hp cummins in his f-350 and it had a BTS in it that did just fine.

Thanks for the response. I had a bad feeling about Cottman's. To pay $500 for them to tear it apart and see what's wrong and do an estimate kind of puts you in a spot to keep having them do the work.

I'll give "Wide Open" a call.
