1996 Escort

I normally post questions here for my 1982 F150, but I figured all of the good information I get here for my truck I could ask a question about my 1996 Ford Escort. My idle has been really rough lately and this morning my check engine light came on. To top it off whenever I slow down to stop the car dies and I have to restart. Where should I start? Could it be a sensor, vacuum hose etc..? I know this is the FTE website, but it is a Ford. let me know if there is a more suitable website or forum. Thanks

Check your IAC, Idle Air Control. It either needs to be replaced or cleaned if your lucky.

According to repair manual I have the IAC is on top of the throttle body. There's no easy way to describe it, but if you go to Advanced Auto's website they will have a picture. It's a common part that's goes on Fords. It's not cheap but then again it isn't to bad.
