Alright, I have a 2002 F250 XL and when I use the key to unlock the door the other side will unlock as well. The weird part is that there is no power door lock switches on the doors. Did somebody rig up some aftermarket actuators or is this how they come from the factory?
If the truck doesn't have the door switches it is more than likely an aftermarket. Do you have Ford transmitter's (they would say Ford Motor Company on the back)? Does the domelight come on when you unlock the vehicle? Go off when you lock the vehicle? All these are indications that it is factory. But Ford sells add-on keyless entries that could do the same if installed right.
I had aftermarket power locks installed on my '05 XL crew cab. They work exactly as you describe- lock/unlock all doors with the key in one door. There are no lock switches in any door except the driver's... probably only there because I had power windows installed too.
If I'm understanding correctly, you don't even have a transmitter - just the key in the cylinder that causes this to happen. Wierd man. Maybe your truck is possessed
I'd guess the others are correct in that it is an aftermarket setup. You could always pop off the inside door cover and take a look (just a couple of bolts).
I have a 96 Explorer that does this. It does have power door locks but no transmitter. On it, you have to turn the key to the unlock position twice in quick succession to get the other locks to, open. Wonder if it's a similar set-up. I've owned the Explorere sinc it was about a year old and nothing has been added since I've owned it. I don't suspect the PO did anything either. I always thought it to be a weird Ford Factory Feature.
I've never ran across a keyless entry that didn't have some sort of control module to run it. Just grab a flashlight and take a peek up under the dash on the driver's side (since more often than not, that's where they're stuffed it)and look for some sort of ractangular looking module that looks like it's different from anything the factory would put in, they're usually pretty easy to spot. If you find one, look for the manufacturer and model #, and just order the controller off of the internet.
That would be a good idea to check for the control box but I have an alarm with a keyless entry feature on it that I was planning on having installed so i'll just let the installed find the correct wire.
