I have a 460 w/ a c6. The c6 has a shift kit. My problem is after the transmission shifts into third gear and you let off the throttle to slow down a bit and then get back on the throttle, the transmission acts as if it were in neutral, but if you get in to the throttle a little it will kinda thump into gear.
Have you checked the fluid level, color, also some times it is a bad modulator
valve! Make sure the fluid is not burnt or brown? And the linkage is right!
Yes it may be trash in the valve, you may remove it and tap it on a peice of wood, if you do replace it the new valves are
adjustable. You may also want to make sure the vacuum hose is hooked up
and no air cracks, and getting vacuum!
P.S make sure the vacuum hose is hooked to the right vacuum source!

At first I had the vacuum on the front of the carb and I thought that might be a problem, so I moved it to the rear of the manifold. On the modulator I replaced it. Today I went to drive the truck and it would not shift! When I took off in third it would stay in first, when I down shifted to second it would shift to second, when I shifted to third it acted as if it were in neutral.
As for having to much vacuum, I'm not sure, but I have played around with
different vacuum soures and it always seems that some vacuum soures make
it shift harder!
P.S. I never asked what auto tranny, the reason I would ask now is on a C-4
the servo with a letter ( H ) shifts harder, also have you tweaked on the
new valve you installed, the paper work in the box it came in tells how by
inserting a tool in where the vac line hooks, if its adjustable!

I am running a c-6, and yes I adjusted on the modulator valve and it worked correctly (it would hold in gear longer and shift a lil harder when screwed inwards.) but still the whole 3rd/neutral is driving me nuts. I have another valve body on the way, so I am going to swap those out and give it a try.
