O.K. guys, need some help here.
I have a 1976 300 I6 (in my 1972 F250 CrewCab, divorced transfer case, 4 speed manual)
Want to put a C4 from a '72 cougar (351W) have the whole car. What do I need to make this swap?
Will this tranny bolt right up?
Output shaft the same?
Driveline length?
Use the flexplate from the 351W?
Balancing issue?
What starter do I use?
Radiator with tranny lines form the Cougar?
Shifter?
Your probably right, I wasn't sure if a C4 would hold up to the weight. Man, this Crewcab is a freek'n bus. Rides good though, would be great with a big block and a c6. How much should I be looking to spend for a decent 460, 429, etc with a C6?
The C4 was available in the F series, but it was a little different from the car version. For instance, at least one of the clutch drums was deeper and had a couple of extra clutches. Also the tailshaft had a very large roller bearing that was not on the car version. One other difference, the output shaft had the yoke for mounting a u joint directly to it instead of the yoke being on the driveshaft as in the car version. If you can find one of those, it would be fine. C6 would be better. Be sure to get the small block version. Best source is probably from a van with either I6 or sbV8.
