vin number?
I just bought a 69 econoline e300 van for 100. Im wanting to restore it. it is in very good condition except for the engine. i also need to know where i can get this vin number decoded.

all this is on the data plate on the door. any help would be grateful.

position 4 brake system
position 5,6,7 model or line,series,chasis cab type
position 8 engine type
position 9 check digit
position 10 model year
position 11 assembly plant
position 12 starts with "A" then goes to "B" after 99,999 in seqence # is reached
position 13 thru 17 sequence #
as taken from Haynes book for 1980 vehicles. Don't have an earlier book

Richard, welcome to FTE. Getting that vin decoded is going to be rough. The older vins rarely told you much about the vehicle. I'd start with finding out what engine is in it. (If it's a 6 cyl it's a 240). Take some pics and post them in your gallery.
