Telescopic Mirrors/Replacing

I have a 2003 Ford F-250 crew cab. Someone broke the amber lens on the driver's side, heated telescopic mirror while it was at a shopping center. I thought I could just get an amber insert but ended up having to get the entire front portion of the mirror...After looking at the replacement it looked pretty much straight forward to pop it off and replace it. Wrong. Didn't cooperate! Can anyone out there advise how to replace this. It's got to be a simple process...

Thanks,

Gene in Alaska

I take it you're just replacing the black plastic - not the mirrors or arms - is that right?

If so, I can't help but I'm sure someone else can. If you are replacing the entire mirror housing, I've done that several times on my '99 350. The telescoping tow mirrors are held on by three bolts that are accessible from behind the plastic triangle cover on the inside of the doors.

Hi Gene - I just posted this same question. Here's the thread link:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=434698

And another link, with pictures about the install:

http://www.eurekaboy.com/f250/newmirrors.htm. It has to do with upgrade from the sport mirrors, but the info is very helpful. Link at the bottom of the page for installation instructions, and the door panel removal instructions.

I ended up ordering a new assembly (clamshell and mirror) from parts.com. The part no I used (driver's side, power, no heat or lights) is 3C3Z-17683DAA

Good luck

Phil

Thanks for your information...I am only replacing the black plastic that contains the amber lens...

Phil,
Thanks a lot for your input...The site was an excellent one for removing or replacing the mirror...All I need to do is replace the black plastic forward portion that contains the amber lens...
