Unhappy Help finding a leak ?

Hey guys,

I am trying to track down a leak my powerstroke is having.

Here is a picture of the area where it is leaking.

The drip is coming off the end of a long tube that is about 2-3" wide and goes from the oil filter area to the front of the engine. I cant even tell what kind of liquid it is. It is mostly clear but dirty, but not diesel color.

Any help would be apreciated.

Can't tell what I'm looking at. The hose connectors look like standard Ford fuel line quick connects, but the drip itself looks like water.

Ok,

I am taking a deep breath because this is the 3rd fuel leak since winter has started.

1st leak. Fuel pump weep hole (replaced fuel pump)
2nd leak. Sensor o ring on the fuel bowl (replaced o ring)
3rd leak. Still not sure yet.

I went outside and got under the truck again and tried to dry off the area and find the leak.

in the first picture i circled an area that i have dried off on the block with in 3-5 seconds fuel starts to show up. Then i guess it goes down on to this silver cylinder thing that goes from the front of the engine to the back oil filter housing (what is this ?) As you can see the entire area is fuel soaked, and it looks like it has been for a while even before i bought the truck a few weeks ago.

Here is 2 more pictures.

Any help would really be appreciated.

I am confused as to what the whiteish object is that the drip is on in the last picture. Agian I am not really sure what I am looking at.

Good Luck,
Chris

wow... since the drip is above the fuel lines... i dont know.. maybe coming from the valley. really hard to tell. there is a lot of stuff under your truck that look wet. what does that clear liquid smell like? is it diesel or water?

edit: on 2nd look if that is your oil cooler in the 1st pic it may be water dripping from that.

I really think its 99% diesel fuel due to the smell.

If it is the oil cooler how is diesel leaking from that ?

If there is a leak in the front of the gallery where does it leave the intake through the front or the back ?

Man this is tough, i cant even see in that area to tell where its coming from

it sure looks like diesel fuel to me. back out of the zoom and show us the engine and circle the area. i am wondering if the fuel drain from the filter assembly is leaking.

drivers side right? the only way it can get there from the drivers side is the hard line that goes to the back of the head. check that. or those fuel lines in the picture are spraying it al over the place or leaking.

Yes the its on the drivers side front of the block. I dried the lines down because I thought they were leaking or spraying like you said but I did see any thing like that.

Do those lines in the picture go back to the bango bolt? I did not get to follow them.

It seems to be a slow drip leak from the block and then its dripping on to that sliver cylinder. Its on the block because it starts to smoke from that area like its being burnt off.

What is that sliver cylinder that runs from the oil cooler to the front of the block? does coolant go through it to cool the oil? If so thats a huge tube.?!

My entire engine valley would fill up with diesel fuel and drain back down around the oil pan and transmission area. I could not find the leak. I took my '97 F-350 into the dealer. They could not find it the first day. They kept it over night and found the leak the first thing in the morning. The leak was coming from the ~1/4" diameter connection on the pressure diaphram on the drivers side of the fuel filter bowl. They charged me $62 for the switch. Little did I know that Intenational sold the same switch for $14.

Hope this helps. Check for a leak when its cold, drivers side of the fuel filter cap.

Mark

Hey Ryan, I was thinking would it be possible that the fuel gallery plug on the head is leaking? I know its a long shot but its right in the area right up by the front of the block. I cant even see in that area since all of the accessories are in the way :/

ok we need to clarify something first.....

front or the back of the motor?

all along im thinking back of motor now you say front....
are those pics where the fuel lines go up the front of the motor????

if so it could be those lines have a hole or the fuel rail plug(im not 100% sure the front has one, never had the vacuum pump off to see)... but ill go out on limb and say they do...or it could be something leaking from cooling system.. are you 100% sure its diesel..

if the rear of the motor we are talking...
hard lines or plug for fuel(not the big one thats for oil) the shiny brass one..

please clarify front or rear... thanks..

The leak is from the front of the motor on the drivers side corner. It looks to be leaking down the block and then on to the coolant tube to the oil cooler.

Its got to be diesel because of the smell.

Yes the picture is of the fuel lines that go up the front of the motor.

I thought it could be those lines but i cleaned them off and they dont seem to be spraying any where.

Any thoughts Ryan? Im not sure what to do other than to clean off the area again or start taking off the accessories from that area to find out whats going on.
