Ok the problem was a very sudden change. I was getting 12.9mpg and it dropped in a matter of days to 9.5mpg. The only change was new tires replaced with the same size; I did however have the new ones siped. And at the same time I put new wheel bearing assembelies on at the same time so technically rolling resistance should have been lowered because the old ones were trash. Any help would be apprciated. Oh I replaced the plugs and boots about 40k ago. Could it be Mass Air, O2? No codes have been thrown. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like a drag issue. New bearings can be stiff and take time to break in. New siped tires will also have more rolling resistance than older worn tires. Also, different brands of tires have differences in rolling resistance, you may want to up your air pressure.
When I switched from Michellin MXV4's to BFG Traction T/A's on my wife's car the mileage dropped 2mpg.
I think you got a bad tank of fuel. Getting tires siped is supposed to increase mileage according to a site I found on this subject. I was all set to get this done to my Contis until I discovered there're not as bad as many people make them sound. There are not an A/T tire , more of an A/S tire but I got my money back from my dealer over that and I am fairly satisfied with them now.
To check your wheel bearings for drag, put your truck in neutral on a very slight grade. If the truck does not roll, you may have a problem. Mine rolls very easy on my driveway which has a very mild slope.
