3rd Brake Light side bulbs

Hey what do the two clear lenses on each side of the third brake light do? How do I get them to come on? Thanks.

Ranger on my 1996 they are used to light the bed.....you can turn them on with the rotary **** used to control dash liighting....just turn it all the way till you feel it kinda click.

My first question to FTE was, "How do I turn the cargo lights on". My '99 had them and my '04 doesn't.

They are cargo lights? That's stupid, in both my parents' trucks you can turn them on whenever you want without lighting up the whole frickin' interior.

Well I understand that. I just would like to be able to turn them on when I feel like it. Might make that a project. Hmm...I already have a light switch in the truck in addition to the stock one, might as well add one more lol.
