I just bought a 2005 Expedition, about 1 year old. There is a wet spot under the rear right side fo the vehicle, just behind the muffler. The snow seems to melt on the driveway when it hits the spot left last night. The liquid is clear and does not have any noticeable fumes or odor. I looked under the vehicle this afternoon and it appears the frame is wet just above where the wet spot is. Any ideas?, or has anyone else experience this and may know what it is? Thanks for any input.
Hello- Welcome to FTE! I have moved your post to the specialized forum we have here for your question. Check out the list of tech forums we have here. There is a wealth of information and expertise here to help you. There are a number of links in my sig below to help you also. Have fun!
My guess is one of several things. There are coolant lines that run down the right side and cross over for the rear heater/AC, I doubt these are leaking because it would be green or orange, next guess is trapped water or maybe even ice, this could be bad due to rust. Check seems and drain holes in doors and rocker panels. Lastly it could be condensation from the exhaust system, the muffler and resonator both have a small hole to let water drain and prevent corrosion in the items. Let us know what you find.
OK, I know the AC runs on these trucks almost all the time to aid in humidity, but the idea of the evaporator actually forming condensate in cold weather is unlikely (look in your freezer), broncholoic mentioned the condensor but this is inforont of the radiator, I think he meant evaporator. Since the heater core for the rear is in this area I still think he might want to look into the fact that it is leaking. It would be unlikely in cold weather for him to be running ac on full blast, most likely full heat to warm the truck up, he said there was snow on the ground. If this was the case the hot air from the heater core would dry and carry the condensate from the evaporator. details.
It is also a good indicator the heater core is leaking when he mentioned that "The snow seems to melt on the driveway when it hits the spot left last night"...
