My '53 F-100 has a Glacier Blue body color and a grille that is an egg-shell color. It is a standard cab. Where would I find the paint code for the grille so that I can have NAPA mix some touch-up paint for me?
If I recall, the color was called Sungate Ivory and has a Ford part number of M-2J-68 and an original (1952-1954) PPG (Ditzler) paint code of 80090. You can contact PPG directly with the above information at
reftechserv @ ppg.com
(remove the spaces) and they will supply a current PPG matching paint code if one is available.
I've been collecting all of the paint colors and current PPG matched paint codes for these trucks, but the Sungate Ivory grill accent is one of the few I haven't gotten around to yet. I'd really appreciate it if you would post any information you get so I can add it to my collection.
I doubt you'll want an exact match if you are doing touch-up, as the original paint will probably have faded a bit in the 50+ years since it was put on. Unless you are looking to repaint the whole grille, you might want to get a color sample chart from one of the touch-up paint vendors and find a good match that way.
Nice list "Earl". I know the online paint chips are not exact, but the "R" (vermillion & torch red) looks to be pretty close to a few parts of my truck. What is on the later parts seems way too bright.
Thanks Earl. The pickup was repainted original colors about 15 years ago and is still in great shape. I'll go with the paint codes you provided and it should work fine.
