The Lamp on the shifter stalk indicates overdrive cancel mode activated (lamp on), electronic pressure control circuit shorted or monitored sensor failure (lamp flashing).
You need to pull the codes using a code reader, multimeter or indicator light - see fordfuelinjection.com for info on how to do it with the latter two - but its much easier with a $40 code reader.
Muckypaws, sounds like you have dogs and it seems you have about the same links I do. Are you an FSB member?

Are you sure about that? The only OBDII bronco is the 96. Everything before that was OBDI.
80351, No I don't have dogs, Muckypaws is a nickname I picked up from friends as I used to spend a lot of time playing in the mud back in my Land Rover days. Not a FSB member, looked a few times but always found my answers here so kinda stuck with it.
oh sorry, we were talking about a 89 initially. you confused me! lol No worries. OBDII is a little more tricky to diagnose, but I believe the connectors and interface is more standardised that OBDI so a code reader will be more generic.
