Driveline Help

Not exactly a 7.3 question but I know that this forum is amazingly helpful so figured I'd try here anyway. My wife has a 94 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 that has developed a bad "whirrring" sound in the rear end. I took a look underneath figuring that the rear diff had blown a seal and tossed the fluid (That's the way it sounds) but the fluid level is fine. It's nasty a$$ black and sludgy so I know it needs changed but I don't think that's the problem. The noise started a couple of days ago and was all of a sudden. Only noticeable on deceleration and does it with the clutch engaged or not engaged. Stuck my head out the window while test driving it and it's definitely something in the back end. What should I be looking for here?

Your rear axle has lost a bearing or something. Needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

I moved the thread to "General Automotive" since it's a Chebby. Thank you chapguy for the vote of confidence.
