I want to ask, while the topic is fresh. I too have had problems using my electronic 4X4. There have been a few times that I have swithched my truck into 4high just to find out that it is still in 2. I have been able to fiddle with the switch or play with the hubs (auto to lock, back and forth) and it eventually kicks in. I have been lucky that I have been in a position that it has not been too critical, but what if? I am still under waranty, so what should I say to the dealer in order to get this corrected.
Sanfan ,if your under warranty ,you tell them it doesn't work all the time.
And have them chk it out.
Things they should do is take apart the hubs and lubricate and clean them.
replace any worn parts (o-rings ,needle bearings ,etc...)
Change the transfercase fluid.
You should read alot more posts on here about the way this system works.
Also this sytem needs to be used in order to work ,so excersize it once a month .

Ditto! what FourtyFords said, after four sets of the ford auto hubs, one the main things i picked up from this forum was don't keep them in auto without ever turning them. That was my main problem i think, i never took them out of auto and never rotated them (big costly mistake). Also seeing still under warranty i'd demand new hubs if the hubs are the problem (most they can do is say no). When you get out of warranty or want dependable four wheel drive go for the Warn Premiums like most of the guys in this forum say to do. I did and for the first time i feel when i need my four wheel drive its gonna be there. gl
Take your truck to the dealer and tell them your 4 wheel drive dosen't work all the time. If they don't fix the problem talk to the service manager. If they don't fix the problem I would also call the Ford Customer Relations. It will be down on Fords computer that your dealer didn't fix your problem and it may help you down the road. I had trouble with a dealer not fixing my old F-250. Every time they didn't correct the problem I called Ford. When my truck broke down after the warentee Ford fixed it at no cost because they never fixed it in the first place.
I had it on my 1998 ford f-150 and of course it failed me during a major snow storm
when I need to plow snow!Imade sure never to purchase an electric switch on
my new truck.I went back to manual hubs and handle. There is something weird
backing up three feet to take your truck out of 4 wheel drive.I 've owned dozen
trucks in last 30 years but thats just me.
i also have had auto hubs fail on my 95 150. on this one the 05 i run them on every time it rains or snows. just because after gooseing this v10 i can't get traction when the roads wet from a start. so why not into 4 x4 it goes. helps keep all the pia o-rings and seals working.
by the way back in 96, a 1 auto hub replacement was $300.00 per side at list. plus labor. hate to see it now. on the 95 i installed manual hubs locked them when it started snowing or i was heading for the beach and just engaged the switch for the transfercase.
I've had good luck with both pairs. I have learned if you will be in 4x4 for extended periods of time to lock them manually. Also, use em often.
Main reason I got em on the 06 is cause my 04s work great. I'm in an out so often I figured the manual would work for me. Also, with an auto tranny and ESOF I can fit 6 people easily. With a manual tranny and a manual shift the center front seat woulda been close to worthless.
