I can't see the quality of contruction in that photo, but it looks ike a homemade version of the wrench that is used to change disks on certain types of grinders. No idea why you would want it so long though.

That's my guess.

its not homemade if you seen it in person you would see it was built that way, and I thought about it being a grinding wheel tool also but I have never seen one that long.

Ya, i have seen that tool before, but for the life of me, I can't remember what it's for. I haven't noticed one of those on a Sears shelf since the mid 1990s? I know my dad had one in his tool box, but I can't recall what it was used for???. He did HVAC/Plumbing/Electrical work.

I know what that is....

That is a Craftsman belt installation tool.

It is used to guide serpentine and other long belts around obstacles. It is great for fishing belts through idlers on the combine too.

It is amazing that some Sears associates can tie their shoes, let alone find a tool you ask for.

Occasionally, my tool aquiring and hoarding skills come in handy.

I have to agree with Jbullfrog. That's what it is. There are other uses for it though--like unlocking an elephant's trunk.

I think jbullfrog is correct, it is an "eary edition" serpentine belt tool, I had one but have not used it in years, not even sure I have it anymore, not very useful for belts or anything else.

That would make sense. Working with HVAC and commercial coolers always meant being around electric motors and compressors with pulleys. Sometimes those assemblies would be up in a tight dark corner. That long handle belt positioner idea sounds logical.

I have a KD version of that (also made by Dahaner). They are really handy on those foreign jobs that like to leave about two inches on either side of the motor. Never knew there was a Craftsman one though.
