Rear window

On occasion the rear window on my 96 EB won't go up or down unless I push on the tailgate. I assume there is a switch somewhere that prevents the window from moving with the tailgate open. Any thoughts?

I believe the switch is in one of the latches. Mine did the same thing from time to time. There should be a plastic bushing on one or both of the strikers on the body. When my problem with this started, I only had 1 bushing (can't remember what side) and I moved it to the other side which was apparently the switch side. Once I did that, the problem went away for the most part. Seems that the bushing closes the latch just a bit more which activates the switch.

The switch is on the LH latch (drivers side). Replacement bushing are avaliable from the likes of bronco graveyard and replacing them will also reduce the tailgate rattle. You might also like to check the adjustment of the 'studs' that the latch engages too - I had to adjust mine to get a good balance between a positive seal on the tailgate and the latch closing enough to enable to motor interlock.
Use a large torx drive and a ratchet wrench - they were pretty tight on mine.

I'mA not a fan of these places - however, you can purchase the replacement plastic bushing in the "help" section of advance or autozone....they work well.
