Question Tire air pressure

OK what air pressure is everyone running in their tires.... Right now I'm going with the recommended air pressure on the door panel 26/28 psi but it seems kinda low.....

What truck do you have my 2001 Expedition sticker says 30 psi front 35 psi rear and it performs best at those pressures. I know of no passenger/light truck that runs 26 psi for daily driving. 1992 Explorers had a door sticker recall that was in that range when the whole tires blowing out and trucks rooling over, their new sticker stated 32 in all 4 tires.

I always read the tire ....
If it says 35 max I use 34
Currently it says 50 max ... so I use 49

It seems that whenever I used 32 for the 35 my tires always wore out on the outside edges first, leaving good tread in the middle. Ever since I upped the pressure, the wear has been even.

Other thoughts?

I think recommended air pressure for 2wd Expys is different than for 4wd Expys.

I've been running 35 psi in everything but high pressure trailer tires with no problems.

The proper psi depends on the weight of the vehicle. In choosing a PSI you should make sure that all parts of the tread touch the pavement. If you inflate to the max there is a chance that the outside edges arnt' touching, or there isn't as much pressure as there is in the center, and will cause premature wear.

For stock tires the Ford rating is best, but after changing to a different tire you have to pick a new PSI.

Dude, It's not the max tire rating, it's the vehicle weight/characteristics that determines the proper pressure. Go by the door sticker and ignore what the tire says. Try your way and what the door says - notice any difference in handling? You should prefer the door recommended pressures. That's not a Bridestone Expy or a GoodYear Expy, Ford built it. Why would you not follow the recommended specs from Ford? Oh, I understand, you get better wear even though the vehicle handles like crap. You're not the guy who posted recently that my vehicle seems sensitive on the highway - it's all over the place? Sounds like you have the priority correct, NOT. Just my $.02 DA.

I'm with Ford390, I run 32 in the front, and 35 in the rear. Any different, and the truck doesn't feel quite right on the highway.

Ahhhhh that makes sense ....
I arrived at that conclusion within the last few years using my windstar and topaz.
From the 80's till 2000ish I always ran 29-31psi on a 35 psi tire and life was good. Between 2000 and 2002 or so I noticed that the vehicles seemed to be driving through Jello ... you know ... let off the gas, put it in neutral ... down hill and it still seems to slow down?

Around that time I jacked up the pressure to 32-34 and the ride was much smoother ... albiet a little louder ... a little more truck like, but it rolled great.

This is the same time period that my wife's daycare was in full swing and all the kids were nearing teen years. Thus we always have 2-5 in the topaz and 2-7 in the windstar plus the baseball, hockey, soccer, cooler etc gear ... so loading was/is much higher than in my single years ...

Now I have the windstar and the expedition and keep up the same routine pressure wise and all is well. I have never purchased original equipment tires ... I just read the door sticker for size and usually get el-cheapo Remington tires that my cousin sells at his garage.

Works for me anyway ...

I run 35psi all around. The ride seems good and the handling is also good. Just my 2 cents.
