Anybody got any ideas on where I could pick up a door only, where the sun glasses go, for my 2002? I bought this truck used and the door was missing. The stealership only sells the whole consul and they want 82.50 for it. Kind of spendy for a plastic 3x5 door.
I've been watching ebay but have only seen whole units for as much as the stealer wants.
I went ahead and spent the money on mine a couple of months ago. I figured I'd spend $82.50 in time looking for one from a chepaer source and then I might only save $20-$30 at best. I agree, it's a bit much to pay for a $5.00 piece of plastic but .....
I seem to remember that I was able to snap the new one in while still sitting in the dealer parking lot, so at least it's easy to install.
When we bought our 02 the door was broken. The dealer ordered a new door. The idiot salesman ended up breaking the other door while installing the new one. They ended up ordering a new console and replacing the whole thing!
This type of thing really ticks me off. A 75-cent piece easily breaks on a $50 module? Fine, then make the vulnerable part replaceable. It's like Lawn Boy or Toro saying, hey, you broke the starter cord on your mower? No problem. A new motor with a good cord is $350.
Wow, I didn't realize that this was such a common thing. When I bought mine I asked for a door and was turned down, guess I should have been firmer at the time, but good trucks are in demand in my area and I didn't have much leverage.
The parts man said I had to order the whole part, I think I'll try another dealer. Maybe they will just order the door part. I got the spin, well there made by Johnson Control and they only sell the whole unit, blah, blah.
On the other hand I'm getting used to the way it looks without it.

Ford does sell just the doors for the console. When I bought my 2002 used from a stealership (3 months of negotiating), that was one of the things I wrote into the offer, that they replace the doors or console. When it benifits them, they will order just the doors. They came in the next day. Two individual boxes. Although when I went to put them in the retaining clips inside the console were broke. While I was attempting to pull the console down, the clips that hold the console to the roof broke. This is some of the most brittle plastic I have ever seen. Two screws and a wire tie later the console is back up, the doors are in but not functional. I dont ever use them anyway.
The last time I replaced any of these parts I found out that the complete overhead console was the same price as 1 door was
I'm not sure if it's still the same or not but make sure you check the price both ways.
Went to see the other local dealer today, What a joke! It seems that each dealer must have their own little scams going.
This one tells me, sure I can order you the door only. then he tells me, the door is sold as a pair only package and that is $74.50 that's when I say, look I have a friend in another state that just bought a single door for less than $15. He says, don't know anything about that either you take the pair for $74 or the whole consul for $106.
I said, you know, it looks pretty good the way it is, see you later
