hey everyone, it is COLD here in Iowa. What is the best way to install an engine block heater in my 70 sport custom 360? I want to stay away from the heated dipsticks of the world, and do it the right way. Happy Holidays!
Or you can get the type that installs in-line in the heater hose. When we lived in North Dakota (brrrrr) I had one of those in my 67 F-100 and the freeze plug type in my Toyota. Everybody up there plugs in their cars and a lot of the motels have outlets where you park the car.

I went thru a lot of winters in Wis, and I used a upper rad hose heater on mine. Worked great and easy to install, just cut the hose and add two clamps.
I use the in-block heaters. The ones in the hoses eventually bake the hose. Just be real careful when tightening the center nut on the block heater. Make sure the heater unit is fully seated against the block and slowly tighten the center nut. It is easy to strip out.
up here in alaska , we have found that the best block heater is the magnetic oil pan heater . you make sure that your antifreeze is correct, and the oil pan heater heats both the oil and the antifreeze at the same time. Its easier to install also. you do need to put gasket sealer arround the edges to insure that it doesnt get blown off while driving down the road, my 2cs,bob
