SD Needs Bigger Wheel Well Liner!!!

Does anybody else notice all of the crap that accumulates in front of the front wheels in the bumper and on the frame rails. I got into some mud a couple of weeks ago and it cost me $10 at the "spray it yourself" car wash just to get all the mud out of the front bumber and off of the frame rails. I thought at one point I had gotten it all untill I went around to the front and sprayed into where the tow hooks protrude from, I then realized all I was doing was pushing the crap around.

I really didn't think much about it, other than it being a PITA to clean, untill I was up dealing on a newer car at a GM dealership. I was waiting for the paper work to get done and was giving a new chevy 1500 a good look over when I noticed they had wheel well liners that droped all the way down infront of the bumper so mud and garbage wouldn't collect up there. JFYI, I was buying a taurus, no GMs in my future as of right now.

So my question that stands is that; has anybody made a better one for the front? I'm thinking of just buying some ABS plastic and some pop rivits and doing a little custom fab so I don't have to worry about my front bumper rusting out from all the mud sand and salt that seems to accumulate up there! Any thoughts?

Why, just high pressure wash the area,if you can see it you will wash it.
Ever take a wheel well liner off a chevy and see all the dirt and crap that you don't see? The dirt still gets there.

I agree they need to keep the crap from the wheel splashing into the engine compartment better though.

In a perfect world things would last forever.

Just my $.02

You could use a section of an old wheelwell liner from another Ford truck (junkyard part), or buy a 2'x3' semi-trailer mudflap and cut it into the size you need and pop-rivet it in place. Done correctly, it will not look 'Bubba' and is made to withstand flying spray/dirt/abuse. The mudflap I used (from NAPA, sold individually) was so tough I had to cut it on a bandsaw - tinsnips wouldn't do it. You can also buy 1/8" thick polyethylene sheet and cut it to fit - but that product is fairly expensive and white in color. Go for it - just check behind your new flap on occasion and clean out any dirt that snuck past.

I agree SLE, I had my new truck in the mud over Thanksgiving and there was a lot of it piled up inside the bumper. Fortunately I have a pressure washer for my ATV's which made it a lot easier to clean out.

I like some of the ideas above. Thanks guys!
