OK, Tuesday i went into mizer muffler and brakes to get my whole front redone. then wed i heear a loud thumping sound. I dont know what it is so i take it in to the shop. It was just a lug nut. he tightened it and i went on. Then thursday i hear a loud thumping sound on the way to school, by the time i get there only 1 lug nut is in there. i went and bought 4 more and put them in. then on the way home from school THE THUMPING SOUND COMES BAACK!!!!!!!!!! by the time i get there, theres only 1 again. so i take it to the shop and he said hes gunna fix it. what are you all opinions about this. I do not think im gunna have to pay any more. I payed 300$ origanlly to get this junk done. I just thought i would share this with u all.
the threads on the thing u screw the lug on are all stipped. He said someone tried to steal my tires last night. The ones on the otehre side were loose also.
That's bs, He didn't tighten the lugs up. Tell him you want new lugs on all of your wheels, and If he gives you any grief, just tell him no problem, I'll go down the street and I'll see you next in small claims court. He had to take the drums off to work on the brakes so he is liable. Right Stockman?

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
Yep. He's packing sand up your rear if he's telling you someone tried to steal your wheels. Being an ex cop and all, I'd ask him (a) How he knows that? (b) was it him? (c) is he part of a criminal conspiracy to steal wheels off customer vehicles after they leave the shop, with him being the point man discovering the merchandise and address of the vehicle...
Any how you get my drift,..
Go back. Insist he make it right. Do not take no for an answer, and if he refuses, take him to court. Like they said: He took off the wheels and now they are loose. They didn't torque them.

John and Tom hit the nail on the head. The guy or someone else working in the shop forgot to tighten the lug nuts. You will most likely need new studs as well as new lug nuts. Don't let the guy push you around, if you bring up using legal action to get this problem solved, his tune will change. I'd request new lug nuts and studs on all 4 wheels. I've seen this happen before. I was coming home from work one day and noticed a guy walking down the sidewalk rolling a tire. I stopped to see if the guy needed any help. He says, "No, I just came from the shop up the road, they just put new tires on my truck. They are coming to help me" Then I said to him, "They must have forgotten to tighten the lug nuts, I'd be xxxxxx". He says, " Oh, I'm xxxxxx, look at my truck". When the tire came off, it almost ripped the front fender off and probably damaged the plow.
Not only do you need the lug nuts replaced, but I'd check the studs very carefully. I nearly ruined 8 on one tire because they were loose and was barely able to reuse them.
Make sure you have the right type of lug nuts, steel rims need angled nuts and alum rims need flat ones with large flat washers, look at the mating surfaces if you not sure.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Feb-02 AT 11:24 AM (EST)]he is putting new studs on them. but he waiting till monday.
only on the front left wheel i think. I dont think there is going to be a charge. But he said he is going to put these new studs and lug nuts that u have to use a machine gun to get em off. OH yea, it is a big job to replace the studs on the wheel? im just wondering
heres something else.... I have seen lugnuts come loose because the stud threads were stretched. I rammed em on witha good impact and you could take em loose with a lug wrench and one hand. Replace the studs.
