This sucks major because it's 2:45 am here, and I have a meeting at 8, with no other way to get there (save walking 6 miles, which is what I fully plan to do).
OK, I'm not sure what I did. Today was a sad day all around, because I have to sell my 1994 Ford f-150. so, I went through and removed everything I wanted to keep.
I removed the Accel digital ignition, and swapped to the original coil.
I removed the fog lights.
I removed the stereo equipment.
Now, however, neither of my fuel pumps will prime. All six of my relays (4 in the 6" distribution module and 2 in the small slots next to it, all on the right hand side behind the overflow tank) are black, so I don't know which one is the fuel pump relay, or even if its in that box. My Chilton's doesn't even show this box.
I tried swapping fuses around in pairs, but nothing made either fuel pump turn.
I then tried jumping a cable from the data port 6 to ground and to data port 2 on the test connect, but got no response that way either.
If anybody out there could at least clue me in as to which of these relays is the right one, that would be wicked cool.
Also, upon reconnecting the original ignition, it should have been just removing the Accel box from the connection, right? Or is there some other mystery wire that should join it somewhere?
Andym: It looks like all my relays have been swapped before, they are all identical 5-post ones.
Subford: Thanks for the diagrams!
I tested the wires for the correct relay at the power point, and to my dismay, the relay was working, and, when standing at the drivers side wheel, there was power to the north and west posts. With the key on, while jumping the test connector, I can hear the relay click open.
I have read on other threads about a circuit breaker of some sort designed to kill the pumps during a wreck.
Is it possible this has tripped or blown? Where would I locate this?
The other question is, if the problem is some random strand of broken wire lost underneath, am I safe in running a new wire from the output of the relay directly back to the pump? I only need one tank to work temporarily, and then I could repair it properly over the weekend.
[on edit] I see the device I was talking about is the Inertia Shutoff Switch. Is this located in a standard location?
The location of the switch depends on the year. Some of them are behind the passenger side kick panel, some of them are on the driver's side behind the pedals on the firewall.
I missed that about all the relays being the same color. That sucks.
If it turns out not to be the inertia switch, you should be able to figure out which is which by the color of the wires going to the fuel pump relay and subford's diagrams.
Much of the amplifier wiring had been run under the passenger side kick panel, and I was fairly aggresive when removing it. Somehow, I had popped the little red button.
I pushed it in, and now both pumps prime!
What sucks is it still didn't start, but I think it's because I wore the battery way down...otherwise the old coil I put on is no good, in which case a quick swap!
Hey I just happened to think. Same kind of deal in my buddies 87. Pumps worked before we pulled the engine. Put a new one in and now it wont kick on... Is the shutoff switch behind the passenger kick panel here also?
Alrighty well apparently he got it runnin. It was the fuel pump. He just stopped by and smoked the tires off when he left! Gotta love that ol 300 with the C6!
