ok guys... i have a 1978 f-100 swb and recently bought a bed for it. The previous owner bought it just for the bed and after he took the original bed off , he suctom made a wood flatbed and cut the wiring harness off. It is the square harness that connects to the bed from the frame. I got another wiring connector from a 79 and tried to wire the bed that i got for it up. when i push the brake pedal, all of the lighs come on (both rear taillights, and side marker lights). then i turn on the left turn signal and it works fine, but if i turn on the right turn signal, all of the lights blink on the rear. The hazzard lights work like they should, and i have no back-up lights. The only lights that work on the front are the side markers, and they dont blink. The front turn light under the headlight dont work on the drivers side (i think the bulb is blown) and the passenger side has no bulb socket or lense. I believe that that is the reason for the front side markers not blinking, but what have i done to the lights on the bed? Do i have wires crossed? Or could it be something else?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Feb-02 AT 07:21 PM (EST)]The back-up lights are actuated by the neutral safety switch.
Your's is probably full of road grime or it's just gone faulty from being under the truck.
Both tailights(running & brake) & side marker lights come on !
I would suggest you have some rear light pigtail
grounding(shorting) going on,or wires in the harness (more likely) that are touching each other.
Do you have a Volts/Ohms nmeter?
It's time to get it out and check wires for continuity.
Current runs through the Brake light switch and the head light switch.
These could also be part of the problem.
It's going to take a patient,step by step trouble-shoot.

On the left side of the transmission linkage.
The connector is under the hood center part of the firewall.
It should be a gray connector with 3-4-5 wires coming out of it.
