ok how do i fix the window the motor runs and sounds like its good but the window will not roll up or down when i look at it it looks like the driveshaft is sliping in the gear is there a way to fix this myself and how long how much and where can i get the parts
When I replaced mine I think it just was three bolts that held it in place once you get the door panel off. Wasn't that hard to do. Took about 30 mins or so. Autozone carried the new one for me and it was only $10 more than a junk yard wanted.
I just did this. You will need to drill two 1/2" holes to access 2 of the 3 bolts. There are small dimples already in the door panel to locate the holes precisely.

I'm SOOO glad I read this post. I have a window motor, I believe is going out. The window will stick sometimes, it did this weekend. I took apart the door panel and check the power and it does get power. I tapped on the motor and iot started to work again. I though I was go to have to drill out the POP RIVETS that hold the whole window mechanism in. This will make it alot easier.
I did this about a month ago, easy to do, usually it is the plastic gear and the parts are cheap, I think the kit was about $16 at autozone. It is a tricky to hold everything in place while putting it back, but once you have the first screw in, it goes easy. You do need to drill the holes to get at the screws, but you don't drill the rivets.

PS, Tape the window in the up position or it will fall when you remove the motor.

This is some great info, I love this site. I use to belong to Chevytalk.com and another site when I had my chevy and I loved those guys very knowledgable. Yall are as knowledgeable as them. This is also a great site. THANX
my window the motor was making a noise, but would not lift the window. now no noise at all. I undid the 2 long screws which bolt the motor with the gear up to the upper half. but now after reading this it looks like i am going to have to drill the dimples out. i put 12 v on each wire but got nothing, but i don't know where gnd goes. i have not been to autozone yet, so i am not sure if the gear kit is the part i took out or not. do i need to go ahead and drill dimples and take top part off.
On a different nte, while we are talikng about windows. The power windows on my 1984 go up and down real slow. Is this normal? Or is there a way to make them faster? Aslo, my passenger side window drops like 4" at mid point when I roll it down. Is this a regulator issue?
