I have a 99 F350 SRW, 4x4, xcab automatic. It has Superchips programmer, 4" exhaust, 6637 air filter mod. When I am driving down the road, every time the truck shifts I keep hearing this psssssssst, woooooooosh coming from under the hood. I mean LOUD. It did it before the 6637, but not so often. Now it does it when shifting from any gear, is a lot louder, and even worse when under a load such as towing my trailer or when I have the plow on. My question is, is that the wastegate, and is it bad to be doing that?? Should it be doing it all the time like that? I appreciate any ideas/comments. Thank you!
Haha..the old Darth Vader. Sounds like completely normal turbo sounds. Mine makes a lot of noise too with that 6637. It used to make those sounds with the stock airbox but they were just muffled out.
Edub32 is correct. I misread your post and missed the part about it making noise when shifting. I like the sound of it shifting like that. I think you are hearing unused air come back through the intake.

I was experiencing the same thing and wondered about it also. I just got my 99 and figured it was the wastegate but found it interesting because I 've owned several intercooled turbo gassers (sports cars) but never heard anything like that. Of course they weren't PSDs. Also the turbo is nearly always dailed up whereas on the gassers it was only really on when you nailed it. Can't say that I really mind the extra sound effects one bit.
