I have a 1985 Ford F250 with a 5.0/302 . When you drive the truck for awhile then shut it off , when you return to start it again , it wont idle right . Once you start to drive it seems to do alright , until you shut it off again . Also when the truck has a payload in it and you drive for awhile , it starts to act like it is running out of gas and stalls out . After it sets for about an hour then it starts up and runs fine untill you drive for awhile then the same thing happens again . When I take it into the shop to get checked out they tell me that they can't get it to do what I said it was doing . The computer tells them that everything is working fine . If anyone has had this same problem and has a fix let me know . Thanks
have you checked for codes on this truck it is easy and takes about 5 mintues. start there. and let us know what the verdict is. it is generally not wise to throw parts at problems either. is this truck fuel injecte or carbed?
A few things that wont (necessarily) throw codes is a clogged fuel filter, overdue tune-up, and dirty air filter....just some simple things to check and/or replace.
My truck is fuel injected . The place I took it to said that no codes showed up . Truck has just had a tune up oil change and all filters changed . The truck was in storeage for all most ten years . During that time the truck was started only about every three months . When the truck was stored it had just had a new timing chain and gear put in . The truck had no problems when it was stored . It always started right up when it was started during storeage .
