I'd leave it where it is. Modern emissions equipment is much more efficient than the crap they threw onto engines back in '60s and '70s. The EFI is designed to work properly with your emissions equipment. Is it causing you problems, and it so, then what sort of problems?

Edlebrock, hei and headers...on a van???

You can pull all of that out, but then you'll need a chip so it doesn't throw a CEL.

Well theres basically two systems you're looking at, thermactor and EGR. The thermactor system is necessary when running cats in the exhaust. The EGR is not necessary but will throw fits with the computer if it's removed. Neither system really hurts performance.

ya blurry on a van lol. i had an 85 with all but the headers with 3.73 gears (9inch)truck ran sweet.i now have 5 vans all together. no pick ups for me anymore. what i`am working on now is a 93 5.0. most of the emissions equipment is junk. converter cracked in half, smog pump about frozen, all the check valves and diverter in the a.i.r system are rusted out , the egr is stuck and the tube between the intake is broken. to top all that off the iac is also junk. so i`am just either going to put the edlebrock carb and intake (i already have it) ,bassani headers, true duel exaust without cats (i have a guy with a hyd.pipe bender will bend pipe for beer) and an hei dist. or i`am buying a new iac and removing the emissions equipment including the cats. installing a working egr valve and sensor with a block off plate between it.make sure evr is good and hooked up along with the neighboring parts next to it on the valve cover. plug the unnessary vacume lines. using my old y pipe from the 85 302 van witch has a custom pipe bent to replace the old single inlet converter that they used on that year van so the stock exaust hooks up. i will have to weld an o2 sensor bung in it. that will work for now till i buy the bassani headers for it. i do not have to pass emmissions here. i will have twice as much money in the truck buying all new emmissions equipment then i would changing it over to carb. and a whole lot less problems. all of my vans are 1991-97. and all are on the way to needing these parts. seems like all the free time goes into fixing or replacing some poorley designed piece of garbage they put on these small block v8s just outragious how many tps sensors do you have to put on a 96 with 80,000 miles has had 3 2 were ford parts. i would like to keep the efi but i seem to be fighting a loosing battle

Yea, I just did that on my 91 Ford E-150. Edelbrock Performer Carb 600 cfm/Intake Combo, Accel Billit dist/Super Coil/8.8 Spiral Core Plug Wires, Mallory 6AL Ignition Control, Ford Motorsports 'Shorty' Headers, Lokar Hi-Tek Kick-Down Linkage. For some 'Bling' I installed Edelbrocks Elite Series Valve Covers and Air Cleaner. Right now I'm changing the fuel system to run on two low pressure eletrical pumps mounted outside the tanks but before the 'tank switch so I can keep both tank running on the stock switch. I'm pulling the tanks one at a time to remove the intank pump and replace with straight pick-up.
So happy to be rid of the problematic EFI that my van had. It just had one problem after another. To be fair, The van sat for a number of years before I got it. Also I prefere the carb over EFI.
