I am getting an '06 F250 V-10 Auto 4x4 Supercab shortbed and am going to run BFG A/T 317/70R17. Driving mostly city and highway. Only off roading will be driving on beach (PINS). Rarely towing and never more than 5000 lbs. on pretty flat roads. Which gearset would you choose and why? Keep in mind that the stock tires are actually 31.6" and the BFG's are actually 34.4".
You can choose factory 4.10s and add your larger tires which would be almost like running 3.73s on stock tires. (Many folks think that that just ain't enough umph.)
Or you can get the factory 4.30s and have it be almost like running 4.10s on stock tires.
I had along talk with the dealer about ordering the truck without letting me know. We had a discussion about what features I wanted on the truck, I didn't sign anything, or put any money down. I spent about three weeks going through my credit report and securing financing. I called back after a couple weeks to let him know I had made my final decisions. Then he tells me he actually ordered the truck the day I initially spoke with him.. Too late to make changes. As a consolation he told me he would discount me $1200 so that I could have it regeared. This is my dream truck I have waited 16 years to purchase. So my options are 4.30 or 4.56's
If you didn't sign anything, you are under no obligation to accept that truck. You should re-order and get what you want.
Keep in mind that a 4x4 will cost more than $1200 to re-gear and won't have the same warrantee as the rest of the truck.
I just had mine re-geared at a Ford dealer and paid about $2500 and got a 1 year warrantee. My truck only has 10K on it now so I lost 18 months and 14K worth of warrantee.
I have a long relationship with this dealer. I think he honestly thought we were done with the decisions. Also I dont know anywhere else where they would sell me the same truck for the money.

I just ran the Ford website build your own deal. The price came back as $35,445. So it would seem to be a deal. However I swear I saw a commercial last night with Toby Kieth that said something about a $4000.00 rebate. Which would mean anybody could give me this deal. Any help?

$2500 for a regear?? ouch!! That is twice what I paid for 4.56s front and rear in my F250. My gears have been in there for about 6 months now with no problems. Had them installed by a reputable 4x shop for around $1200, which was very close to what other shops wanted to charge.
I have 4:10 gears in my 05 F250, V10, torque shift trans, 4" lift, 35" Toyo m/t's, super cab, short bed which is like your soon to be new truck. The set-up is fine, I did notice a difference after putting on the lift and tires as it now feels more like my old truck with stock gearing, which is more than OK. If your truck is ordered with 4:10 you will be fine. Warning, the mpg with the V10, lift and tires sucks bad (9 mpg) which gets old, but the motor is great. I'll be trading for the new 6.4 if it makes a good impression. Since this is your dream truck and intend to keep it for a long time, maybe see what the new 07 body style and motor options look like. You are under no obligation to buy a truck that you did not approve the order of, and put no deposit on, and don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise. Your the boss of your purchase of the new truck, not some salesman. GOOD LUCK!!
Thanks for the responses. I think I have decided to go with the 4.56 since it will put me back at stock gearing. I do have a long relationship with this dealer and don't want to stick him with a truck that will be hard to sell, especially since I couln't have gotten the 4.56 stock anyway. Otherwise the truck is exactly what I wanted. As far as the '07's, I REALLY don't like the way they look (find the post about spy photos) and that new lowered bumper height is goofy. Hell, I actually like the front end on my '01 F-250 better than the new one. I am thinking about seeing if I can swap the graphite colored grill with BIG Ford insignia off of my F-550 if it will fit.
Hey Trey, if the order has been in the system for only three weeks it may not be online yet. Have the dealer check and see if they can change it to the gear that you were going to order. It normally takes 6 weeks from the time you order, when I was working at the Ford dealer I sometimes had 4 weeks before it was locked in and unchangeable. If not, remember, the dealer is the one that made the mistake and ordered the truck prematurely, you should not have to pay for it. Someone else would be happy with that truck that's already on order.
Due date is Dec. 5 at dealer lot. A very cool board member JKBrad has helped council me through my anxiety. I really appreciate all the help and responses everyone has given here. I am just gonna take the truck and start worrying about all the things I usually worry about again. HA HA Thanks!
