well its seem to me that my truck isnt liking the cold weather. i was out trying to get my hubs from being stuck in the lock even thought the dial is set on the auto selection and when i started it, i jumped out and notice a plump of blue smoke. this is the first time i have seen this. it sat for about 4 days before i started it. i run valoline synthetic. is this a normal thing for a v10, i think i remember reading about this before. mileage is 90,000. thanks

This happens with many modular motors. I noticed it first on my 01 with a 5.4. It only happened when I would start it cold for a short time then shut it down, like when moving it. Then I would get the puff. It never used any oil or caused a problem. From then on I would let it warm up before shutting it down. There have been many posts in various forums here for the same issue.
You may also want to change the PCV valve if you haven't done so lately.

Switch to a non-syn, or a syn-blend and see if it goes away. I'm guessing it will. I had the puff with Mobil 1, and no puff with Motorcraft synblend. Plus it costs less than $2 a quart.
My '01 V10 does it after the typical "start-up, run 10 seconds, shutdown, restart the next day" ... POOF... Is this what you did? Or was it a straight startup on a "normal" day?
When I was doing the plugs the other day, I noticed a coating of oil behind the throttle body. No way for it to get there, besides the PCV. You might want to check if your PCV rattles nicely when you shake it
I'm starting to wonder if upper-cylinder lubrication is being taken care of with the un-documented oil injection
I'm think that i had just driven it a few miles and them backed it into the car port. it probably needs a new pvc valve too just for safe measure. also i was thinking about it and lately when i start it after it has been sitting for awhile, it seems to really fire up, like a loud growl, its pretty cool but when i got the truck it didnt do this. recently cleaned the IAC a few month ago, maybe its related to that.
I've only had my "01 V-10 for about 2 months and just noticed mine did that exact "growl" when I started it up this morning. I had just run it last night. I was thinking the exact same thing, "that sounded cool!" and then, ""Never heard that before!"
i get that growl as long as i let the truck sit for a least a day and then start it. the sound is pretty cool though. everytime it happens my gf looks over at me like.... shes in the seat of a top fuel drag car that just started.
My 05 does the growl when it's cold. When the exhaust warms up and expands it gets quiet. I like that sound when it's cold, kinda wish it sounded like that all the time.
