we are all still learning from the great pushrod V6's and Aero vans Ford built in the 90's,,,really built Ford tough, economical on fuel and low cost to repair/service
too bad Ford DIDn't....another 7,500 layed off and 5 plants closed...some of the newest most modern they have....will be no Ford light truck production in USA in 5 years if this continues
good bye F150>F350 and Ford vans
I just cleaned the inside windshield of my aero. Lightly brushed headliner with soft rag. Headliner disintegrated. Dear FOMOCO we remember this stuff when we buy new cars. Why don't they know this stuff?? Please return to the quality of yesteryear, when american cars were the standard of the world.
I hate to buy foreign cars but, dammit sometimes they are simply better built.
ok so with an auto timing chain tensioner, you shouldnt have the old problem of chain slack retarding your cam like in the older engines, right? crank/cam timing should be right on regardless of slack (cause theres none) right? i like the fact that the 4.6's and such were built with chains and tensioners. most ohc's of the generals and other manufacturers from that era had krappy belts that always die at 60,000 miles, sometimes takin out the valves.
Cam timing will still be affected if the timing chain is worn and stretched. The chain in effect becomes longer as it stretches. Tensioners can only limit the chain from flopping and digging into the cover and perhaps jumping a tooth on one of the gears. It can't correct for a longer chain.
In other words, the timing gears that were once aligned at TDC at the time of assembly will not be on the TDC marks once the chain stretches and becomes longer. The upper cam gear will lag behind the lower "drive" gear. Does that make sense?
OK, timing changes. What effect does that have? More low end torque? timing sets often have the ability to set them up at + or - 3 degrees depending on how one wants to effect the tuning of the engine. I know it is different than spark timing (more advanced short of detonation , the better) I never understood cam timing.
