Auto Hubs

This will be my first winter with a 4 wheel drive. I have been reading about the auto locking hubs. How do I tell whether my truck has auto hubs or not(bought the truck used)?

Also, how do the auto hubs work when in the auto podition?

You have Auto HUbs if you have a switch on the dash to engage 4-wheel drive, if you don't have auto hubs you will have a shifter on the floor to engage 4-wheel. Auto Hubs work in conjuction with the switch. Meaning you don't have to jump out and lock the hubs in to engage 4x4. Manual on the auto hubs is backup or to just be sure its locked.

to add on from above- when you are in "auto", the hubs are unlocked until you turn the **** on the dash. they are activated by the vacuum pump. sometimes these begin to rot and leak, causing a vacuum leak, which means no auto 4wd. if your's is not functioning properly, it is most likely the vacuum lines. alot of people throw the stock hubs away in favor of Warn Premium hubs. you have to get out and lock in the hubs, but i like having the assurance of locked hubs. they are extremely cheap ($180) compared to stock auto replacements- $450-$600.

Does it hurt to drive with the hubs LOCKED and drive in 2 wheel drive???... it sucks getting in and out... in and out.... in and out.... blah blah blah...... I did this past weekend cause where i was at had lots of snow....

On a side note... I pulled over before i got on the highway to unlock the hubs... and a Duramax passed me... i just knew he was laughing at me!!
